On 5th, November, China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2018 is held in Shanghai. A German “Taurus Gantry Milling Machine” with mass 156 tons has attracted much attention.

Though, it is the undeniable fact that high-end machine tools in China still rely on import, with the United States, Germany and Japan are the dominant forces in CNC devices including industrial development, design, manufacturing, applications as well as experience. In contrast, China is facing numerous challenges such as irrational industrial structure, poor innovation, etc.
 
However, it is also a fact that cannot be ignored that in the past 40 years since reform and opening up, a large number of Chinese CNC enterprises are growing quickly and becoming the most vigorous body of the market economy in China. They grew up from the scratch, from small size to giants, from poor innovators to R&D experts, from a domestic company to a global company. In the past 40 years, we have witnessed remarkable changes and development in CNC industry in China:

•             In 1979, machine tools in China were only 692.
•             In 2007, market share of CNC machine tools that were manufactured in China exceeded 50% for the first time in the history.
•             From 2000, annual output value of Chinese machine tools has made a significant breakthrough. And China has become the most largest country of CNC machine tools builders.


To build up the core competence featuring Intelligent Manufacturing in China, the development of CNC industry in China relies on the development of key and innovated technologies including servo drive, servo motor.
